COSAFA Womenâs Championship Report: South Africa v Botswana 17 September 2017By SL International - Sep 17, 2017 06:25 PM Banyana Banyana advanced to the knockout stages of the COSAFA Women's Championship after drawing 1-1 with Botswana. The South Africans enjoyed a lot of possession in the opening exchanges although they failed to threaten the visitors' goal. Botswana did have a chance to score midway through first half after mix-up in the box, but they were unable to test Yolula Tsawe. Desiree Ellis' charges went close just before the break, but Tlailane's long range effort was saved by Nkoikoi failed to convert the rebound. Nevertheless, the score remained goalless as the sides entered the halftime break. With both sides struggling, Ellis opted for a double change in the 67th minute as Kgatlana and Vilakazi were introduced. Kgatlana had a chance to gift Banyana the lead after 70 minutes but her first touch let her down. Botswana then took the lead in the 83rd minute courtesy of a strike from Nfandiso. However, Banyana hit back four minutes later when Essau bagged her third goal of the campaign.
