PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has brought one of its officers, Zamihan Mat Zin, to the disciplinary board following his alleged criticism of the Johor Sultan during a religious talk.
Chief director Othman Mustapha said Jakim viewed seriously Zamihanâs statement in the video of the talk which was uploaded on YouTube, and agreed that there were hints of criticism towards Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
He also verified that Zamihan is a Jakim officer in the home ministry, currently serving at Kajang Prison.
âJakim called Ustaz Zamihan Mat Zin this morning in order to get further explanation on the matter, and has decided to forward this matter to the disciplinary board for further action,â he said in a statement tonight.
Yesterday, the Malay Rulers criticised Muslim-only business policies as extreme and a threat to harmony. They added that the damaging implications of such acts became more severe when they were erroneously associated with or committed in the name of Islam.
Their criticism followed the video of Zamihanâs religious talk at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah at Shah Alam, in which he said Sultan Ibrahimâs statement on the Muslim-only laundrette was ânot appropriateâ.
He also made several comments on Chinese Malaysians, calling them unclean.
Zamihan has since apologised to Sultan Ibrahim, claiming that the media had misquoted and slandered him.
He has also threatened to sue several portals including FMT and has accused FMT of having a hidden agenda to create disunity among the people as well as to tarnish his image.
