SUSPECTED leader of a grou p of people who booed Grace Mugabe during a Zanu PF youth interface rally in Bulawayo will spend the night in remand prison after Magistrate Sharon Rosemani postponed bail hearing to Wednesday.

Former Zanu PF Bulawayo Central district chairman Magura Charumbira who was said to be on the run, handed himself to police on Monday after the police had launched a manhunt on him.

Charumbira and four other party youths are accused of disrupting President Mugabe’s wife while she was addressing party members a fortnight ago.

The quartet has since appeared in court on charges of undermining the authority of the president and was each granted $50 bail.

Charumbira, who is represented by Tanaka Muganyi of Tanaka Law Chambers, faced three counts of inciting individuals to commit public violence, undermining the authority of the president and acting in a disorderly conduct.

The state and defence team made their submissions and Magist rate Rosemani is set to make a final judgement on the matter.

In an interview with, Muganyi rapped the state for dragging the matter yet his client had no case to answer.

“It is surprising that the state has a case at all and wants to clutch at straws in denying the accused person bail on allegations that are unfounded.

“Counts have been increased but still at the end of the day they do not make any sense but however, we are hopeful that the judiciary will stand its stance in protecting the constitution of the land and upholding the rights of the individual,” said Muganyi.

“The rally did not stop, it continued and the authority of the president was not undermined in any way because it was the First Lady who was addressing and is not covered by the provision.

“There are also no witnesses who will say we were incited and so the case will crumble like a deck of cards,” he said.
