A teenager who bludgeoned a woman with a paving slab and left her for dead after raping her on his 17th birthday has been convicted of attempted murder.

Charlie John Pearce, from Leicester, searched the internet for videos depicting the rape of “helpless” women in the weeks leading up to the attack at about 11.35pm on July 3.

A court order preventing the identification of Pearce was lifted by Mr Justice Haddon-Cav e at Leicester crown court yesterday after applications made by the Press Association and the BBC.

He admitted rape, causing grievous bodily harm with intent and stealing the victim’s handbag but denied attempting to murder her in a park in Leicester. He declined to give evidence but claimed through his lawyers that he had…
