Massive 7.3 magnitude earthquake hits coast of Peru
A tsunami threat has been issued in Peru and Chile following a powerful earthquake just off the coast of South America.
The 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck about 124km south west of the town of Puquio, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.Chelsea Manning will run as a Democrat for the US Senate
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said that âhazardous tsunami waves are forecast for some coastsâ.
It added that tsunami waves reaching 1-3ft above the tide level are âpossibleâ for parts of Peru, and that waves are forecast to be less than 1ft for the coasts of Chile.
The tsunami alert was said to apply to areas within a 300km radius of the earthquake, but it was not believed to af fect the west coast of the USA.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage since the earthquake at 4.18am local time.Source: Google News
