Lionel Messi scores 100th Champions League goal for Barcelona vs Chelsea
Barcelona star Lionel Messi put Chelsea to the sword in Wednesday night's Champions League clash at the Camp Nou as he scored his 99th and 100th goals in the competition.
Messi had failed to score against Chelsea in eight previous meetings between the teams in Europe before they were drawn against each other in the last-16 this season, but notched his first against the Blues to give Barca the advantage with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte warned Chelsea needed to play the "perfect game" to beat Barca in the second leg, but they got off to the worst possible start as Messi beat Thibaut Courtois from an acute angle after just two minutes and eight seconds - the fastest goal of his career, no less.
Things got worse for Chelsea as Messi teased Conte's defence before assisting Ousmane Dembele for Barca's second of the night after 20 minutes, and the hosts took a two-goal advantage into the second half.
Messi's early goal had put the Argentina forward on 99 Champions League goals, and he duly notched his century 17 minutes after the restart as he again beat Courtois from a tight angle to put the tie all but beyond Chelsea.
According to Opta, Messi reached 100 Champions League goals in just 123 appearances, which is 14 games 14 than it perennial rival Cristiano Ronaldo (137 matches).Source: Google News
